First-Class Gynecology Services in Fort Worth

Women over the age of 20 in Fort Worth and elsewhere are encouraged to undergo a host of routine medical examinations to ensure their health. Along with seeing your primary care doctor for yearly physicals, you also should visit a gynecologist on a regular basis to monitor your reproductive health. You can stay one step ahead of illnesses that could affect this system by taking advantage of our first-class gynecology services at our office in Fort Worth. Some common services include a pelvic exam, a breast exam, and ultrasound/sonogram testing.

Pelvic Examination

Women age 21 and older are encouraged to undergo yearly pelvic examinations. This service screens you for risks like cancer, cervical abnormalities, and other conditions that could affect your ability to conceive and sustain a healthy pregnancy or your ovulation and menstrual cycle.

This examination typically involves a swab of your cervical cells being taken for testing, a service that is known as a pap smear. Our doctor may also perform a physical exam of your vagina, cervix, and uterus to inspect these organs for defects or signs of illness. This is a very common aspect of gynecology.

Manual Breast Examination

During your yearly gynecological appointment, you also may undergo a manual examination of your breasts. Women are reminded to manually exam their own breasts every month at home. However, you should go through a medical examination of your breasts every year. If you have any suspicious lumps or cysts, we can biopsy the tissue and test it for cancer. You also may first have a mammogram done on your breast tissue.

Ultrasound or Sonogram

Depending on your age and overall gynecological health, our gynecologist may recommend that you have an ultrasound or sonogram performed on your internal reproductive organs. Our doctor may want a closer look at your uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries.

These tests can indicate if you have growths or cysts that might need to be removed. They also determine if you have blockages in your tubes that might be preventing you from conceiving or having normal periods. Depending on the findings of these tests, you may have to undergo a procedure to correct the problem. You also could be prescribed medications.

These and other first-class gynecology services are available at Fort Worth Center for Pelvic Medicine. You can ask for them to ensure that you are in the best reproductive health. We proudly offer the popular MonaLisa Touch® treatment as well. Contact us today to schedule a gynecology appointment at our office in Fort Worth!

MonaLisa Touch for Minimizing Vaginal Dryness

You’ve experienced bouts of vaginal dryness in the past, but you never thought much of it. However, that has all changed due to the misery you are experiencing now. It all started as you began to experience symptoms of menopause. You expected mood swings, night sweats, and hot flashes. You weren’t prepared for vaginal changes. You are so dry now that you feel irritated all of the time. You can’t enjoy moments of intimacy anymore. You’ve tried different products that are supposed to restore moisture, but they haven’t worked effectively. It’s time to explore other choices. The MonaLisa Touch® could be the answer.

What’s the Secret Behind the MonaLisa Touch®?

The MonaLisa Touch® is a gentle laser therapy that is used to rejuvenate your delicate vaginal tissues. The laser uses a low-level of heat that is enough to trigger collagen production. It also causes the tissue of the vagina to thicken. Healthy tissue is regenerated, blood circulation is stimulated, and improved lubrication will result. You’ll experience relief from your irritation. If your intense dryness has caused bouts of urinary incontinence, this problem should be resolved as well. If you have been feeling miserable and are looking for an answer, the MonaLisa Touch® can help you to put your discomfort behind you.

Why are You Experiencing Vaginal Dryness?

If you have had one or more children, vaginal dryness can result. The tissues of your vagina are extremely delicate and can become damaged with minor tears. As menopause gets closer, your reproductive system is getting ready to shut down. Your estrogen and progesterone levels are going to drop. For some women, this change may not even be noticeable. For others, it is extreme. These hormonal changes cause your vaginal tissue to become thinner and get in the way of lubrication. When your body isn’t doing what it should anymore, the MonaLisa Touch® can help to restore balance.

Take Charge of Your Vaginal Dryness Today

You shouldn’t have to live in discomfort or pain. Vaginal dryness can make you feel awful. You owe it to yourself to come in for an appointment at Fort Worth Center for Pelvic Medicine to discuss your problems. A series of short, in-office laser treatments could do you a world of good. Our office is conveniently located in Fort Worth. Contact us today to schedule a consultation for the MonaLisa Touch®!

Common Causes of Pelvic Pain

There are a lot of different health issues that could lead you to experience pain in your pelvis. In fact, you could be experiencing pain in your pelvis as a result of multiple conditions that are affecting you at the same time. Pelvic pain may stem from urinary problems, reproductive issues or problems with your digestive system. Many people battle with pelvic pain because of an issue with their musculoskeletal system. Either their bones, their muscles or the ligaments in their pelvic floor are damaged or are not functioning properly. There are a lot of nerves in your pelvis. If these nerves become irritated, they can result in some very serious and painful issues.

Some of the reasons why women may experience this pain include ectopic pregnancy, endometriosis, ovarian cancer, as well as pelvic inflammatory disease. Both men and women may experience pelvic pain in connection with appendicitis, colon cancer, diverticulitis, kidney stones and a whole host of other ailments.

If your pain develops rapidly and it is severe, this may be a sign that you are experiencing a medical emergency. In these cases, it is best for you to seek medical attention rapidly. It is also good to pay attention to new pelvic pain or pain that increases in intensity over time. Pelvic pain that affects your quality of life should not be ignored, but it should be discussed with a qualified medical professional.

Another common reason why both men and women experience pelvic pain is as a result of irritable bowel syndrome, also known as IBS. Irritable bowel syndrome produces cramps that are extremely painful in the pelvic and abdominal region. In addition to this pain, you might have constipation or diarrhea. IBS is a disease that fluctuates when it comes to its symptoms. You may have a period of time with no pain, and then the symptoms will recur.

Pelvic inflammatory disease is an infection and is usually connected to sexually transmitted diseases, like gonorrhea. Signs of pelvic inflammatory disease include pain that travels to the abdomen as well as abnormal discharge or pain during urination.

Another common cause of pelvic pain is urinary tract infections. In addition to pain in the pelvis, you may experience painful urination, a frequent urge to urinate and lower back pain. If not addressed quickly, this condition can result in kidney damage.

As you can see, the reasons for pelvic pain are very diverse. We have only scratched the surface on some common causes of pelvic pain. If you are experiencing pain in this region, speak to our specialist at Fort Worth Center for Pelvic Medicine, as this can help you identify its source. From there, we can create a customized treatment plan for you. We are proud to offer a variety of services ranging from MonaLisa Touch® treatment to infertility treatment. How Do Infertility Treatments Work?

Some women can get pregnant on the first attempt. For others, it’s not that simple. If you’ve been trying to get pregnant for quite some time now without success, we may recommend that you begin the process of infertility treatments. Since there are different routes that can be taken depending on your specific situation, it can be confusing to navigate the treatment process. Don’t give up hope. Dr. Johns and his team of professionals at Fort Worth Center for Pelvic Medicine are here to help you every step of the way.

In the early stages of infertility treatment, you may undergo non-invasive treatments depending on the source of the infertility. There are some common options that fall into this category. Those with endometriosis may be able to conceive after laparoscopic surgery to remove the excess tissue from the lining of the uterus.

If these treatments are unsuccessful after a certain period of time, Dr. Johns may refer you to another medical professional. Advanced Reproductive Technology (ART) could help you conceive a child. In-Vitro Fertilization is another treatment that may work for you. With this treatment, an egg is fertilized in a lab and then the embryo is placed directly into the woman’s cervix.

If you no longer produce eggs, you may opt to combine your partner’s sperm with a donor egg; if neither the egg nor sperm is viable, a donor embryo may be implanted directly into the uterus. If you are unable to carry a child, gestational surrogacy is another option in which your embryo or a donor embryo is carried to term by another woman.

Each of these infertility treatments varies in success rate, as well as benefits and drawbacks. Honest conversations with your partner, your OB/GYN and our fertility specialist can help you better understand your options and arrive at a treatment plan that makes sense for your individual situation.

Have you and your partner been trying to conceive for quite some time to no avail? If so, you are not alone. Many couples struggle in this area. Make an appointment at Fort Worth Center for Pelvic Medicine to learn about your options regarding infertility treatments. We are proud to offer a variety of services at our office in Fort Worth ranging from MonaLisa Touch® to gynecological ultrasounds. Contact us today to schedule a consultation to learn more!
